“The really dangerous American fascist… is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power… They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.”
– Henry A. Wallace
The United States of America:
The United States is a country struggling with dust storms wrecking the American prarie. She is slowly pulling herself out of the Great Depression as wages and productivity slowly rise. Having learned their lesson from the tragedy of the First World War, her citizens firmly reject any impetus to become involved in another ‘European war’. Thus this industrial giant remains in its great slumber, far too busy sorting out its domestic issues to engage in any foreign intrigue. Surely the United States won’t play any role in the great conflict approaching the horizon…
The Second American Civil War:
Perhaps you wish to take the United States, and the history of the world on a new path? Perhaps you wish to enter a realm of ‘Political chaos’.
What would have transpired in a world, where ‘confidential FBI documents’ were released to the public, detailing Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s involvement in the assassination of the outspoken democratic populist Huey Long? Perhaps foreign intelligence networks in the UK and USSR would attempt to prevent American collapse, but in the eventuality that those accusations succeed in alienating the people of the United States, opportunistic politicians would seize the initiative and exploit the grievances of the people to forever change the American system.
The Confederate States of America:
In the South, a region still sulking after their defeat in the first American Civil War and sore from the abuse that followed, is eager to overthrow the yolk of Northern carpetbaggers. South Carolina is again the first to secede, and a Confederacy of 13 states is formed, consisting of South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Kentucky.
The South inherits the same spirit of liberty and democracy from the United States, but in a more conservative flavor, under the principle that the States will have greater right to self-governance. While the Confederate Congress gathers in their new capital in Richmond, the powerhouse of New Orleans, and the rising star of Houston will seek to drag the focus of the Confederacy further south. Booming refinery towns in Southern Texas and Louisiana mean that the Confederacy is well on the road to becoming the largest producer of petroleum products in the world. But what will this young nation do with their tremendous potential?
The Federal American States:
Douglas MacArthur, recently retired from being chief of staff for the United States Army due to personal conflict with Roosevelt, will take the initiative and declare himself as the best-able man to restore the United States to a path of righteousness. After ousting Roosevelt and declaring himself generalissimo (until a new constitutional convention can be called of course), he will galvanize the support of the Northern Industrialists, the capitalists and advertisers of Wall Street and Madison Avenue, the steelmen of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and the automakers of Detroit and build a new government: a despotic nation, mixing elements of fascist industrial collusion between business and government and centralized monarchic power. This new nation, claiming inheritance from the United States, will seek to reabsorb her former lands before turning its attention eastward, towards the ruthless Japanese attack on a brother nation, one that is similarly despotic and militaristic, the slumbering dragon of China.
The Free American Republic:
Henry Wallace, having survived the massacre initiated by MacArthur against President Roosevelt and most of his cabinet, has fled to the west and has established a new government in San Francisco, claiming to be the legitimate successor to the United States, with Wallace being the rightful President of the United States. With Wallace in the west are communists, fascists, and pro-America patriots that have flocked around the idea of a new America, one free from the corruption that now threatens the entire North American continent. Wallace has many issues to settle, issues that must be put aside for now, in order to secure victory against Douglas MacArthur.
Their flag, sports 10 stripes, one for each amendment of the bill of rights, and a ring thirteen stars in the center, around a federal American eagle. To the left and right of the flag, between the 5th and 6th stripes lay 35 stars, one for each state of the commonwealth.

I enjoy playing with this tech-extension mod:
Addressing Bugs, Features, and the like:
Regarding the question about the starting divisions – I chose a more historically accurate deployment of US ground forces for the mod. The National Guard Divisions can be deployed for free upon the onset of war and Marine Divisions can also be deployed. Both can be expanded upon via the focus tree, which will add extra forces to be deployed for the defense of the homeland when they are needed.
Regarding the issue surrounding research – using decisions and focuses, the player can end up with many more research slots than other factions (expected to reach this point at some midpoint in the war – perhaps ’43 or so) and there are many research bonuses available in the focus tree (and also unique technologies accessed via decisions) that should help the player catch up with other nations quickly. – So I plan on leaving the US starting on 1 research slot for the next couple of updates. No more free nuke or carrier rushing, sorry.
