The Last Bastion (Development)
The year is 1936, and it has been 18 years since Leon Trotsky assumed control of the Soviet Union. The world has changed immensely since then and nation after nation falls to what has become known as Trotsky’s World Revolution. Eastern Europe sits tightly under the iron grasp of the Soviets; and France, Germany, and Britain have all fall to communism as well. To the East, even the once-mighty China finds itself plunged into a civil war that has torn the country apart. However, all is not well for Trotsky and his allies. Somewhere in the world lurks Stalin, the man robbed of his position as leader of the Soviets, plotting his revenge. And, perhaps more pressing still is the reinvigorated United States, which has been more and more aggressive in its actions and rhetoric to stop the spread of communism. Thus the fate of the world lies in your hand, will Trotsky’s revolution prevail, or will the United States stand strong as The Last Bastion of democracy and halt the spread of communism once and for all?
The Last Bastion is an alternate history mod for Hearts of Iron IV which seeks to portray a world in which Leon Trotsky assumed leadership of the Soviet Union and spread his revolution throughout the world. This mod currently includes wonderful features such as:
Custom Map
The Last Bastion contains a fully unique map display of this new Trotskyist world. Some nations are familiar, such as the United States. Some familiar nations have undergone drastic changes such as the Commune of Britain or the Weimar Republic. Furthermore, some brand new nations have been forged such as the Bavarian Commune or the Union of the Benelux. What happens to these nations when they are in your hands?
Unique Nation Focus Trees
The Last Bastion currently contains five complete national focus trees as well as a brand new generic tree with more on their way. Currently in-game are focus trees for:
– Soviet Union
– (Republic of) China
– People’s Republic of China
– Italian Republic
– United States of America
– Luxemburg
And coming soon:
– Weimar Republic
– French Republic
– French People’s Republic
– Commune of Britain
– British Government in Exile
– Republic of Spain

Known Issues/Fixes
1. For some users, the mod loads the base-game
2. Go to your "Documents/Hearts of Iron IV/mod" folder and delete all of the .mod files there – -> go back to "Hearts of Iron IV" and delete the mods_registry.json –> start a game without mods and load in –> Exit –> Mods should work
3. There’s no known fix, any information please contact us
Comprehensive Lore
The Last Bastion currently has rich and well-developed lore detailing the events that shaped the world and the people that shaped it. The mod contains many custom events, leaders, and ideologies as well as an alternate history beginning in the year 1918.
NOTE: The Last Bastion is currently in a beta state. The mod is in no way complete and many of the things currently in the mod are subject to change. If you experience any bugs while playing the mod or have any suggestions on things that could be improved feel free to let us know on The Last Bastion Discord server.
