Description:

Sorry to be a tease but barring calamity, TWAS will be updated for 1.6.0. It’s going to take a while (months), because with the new ship designer there’s a lot of things I want to do to the way that works, and then country and unit files need updating to reflect this, but things have started. Thanks for your interest :).

The War at Sea 1.5.4a

– Just a compatibility update with the latest patch from Paradox.

The guide to the mod is here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1137196376

This mod is focussed on things naval. It currently contains:

– Historic (-ish, as best as the AI can manage – sadly historic construction costs do not play well with the AI, so don’t look for historical plausibility here) stats for all the ship classes covered by HoI4 vanilla. Post-1935 classes can either be historical or player-designed using a stream of XP and an expanded upgrade system. Optional (if you choose to design your own ships – the events are required for using historical ship designs) events introducing post-1935 classes.
– Historic ship class names and OOBs.
– Adjustments to submarines, to make them more effective. Note that due to the mechanics for convoy raiding, this involves giving them somewhat higher than historic speeds. While this looks off on paper, it results in in-game results that are closer strategically to historically plausible ones. If playing vs AI, recommend sub fleets of 20 or so. More than this runs the risk of ‘monstering’ the AI in ways it isn’t trained to deal with. Note, it’s still a long way from perfect, it’s just not as rough as the base game.
– Over 40 new admirals courtesy of some great work by Graf Radetzky. These are a bit of a random bunch at the moment, but over time the goal is to flesh out the admiral list (as well as their stats – the current are placeholder) for all major combatants.
– A small number of flavour events, courtesy of some great research and writing by Khevenhuller. These will be expanded over time.
– Tweaks to the naval defines to produce a (hopefully) better naval combat experience (noting there’s only so much can be done). There are also some tweaks to other defines based on Balesir’s excellent Waltzing Matilda mod.
– ‘Legacy’ ships – there are now tech years for 1896, 1908 and 1916, allowing starting OOBs to better reflect the ships on hand in 1936 (so Schlesien and Schleswig-Holstein are now no longer similar in capability to the Queen Elizabeth or Colorado classes!)
– Slower naval production. You only get four NIC per ship production line, so plan ahead wisely, as there are no six-month aircraft carriers to be found here.

The general philosophy of the mod is to change things that the devs aren’t expected to fix (unless, like submarines, they really need attention). There are still some rough edges – most of the vanilla event pics haven’t been replaced by larger ones, for example.

Compatibility: Is sadly terrible. This mod changes a bunch of things (country files, tech, ai strategies, units and production interface amongst other things), and should not be expected to be compatible with anything beyond loading screen mods (although you might always get lucky). If there’s something you’d like to see integrated, mention it and I’ll see what I can do. Please don’t report any problems if you have other mods enabled.
