Description:

The fact that J. B. M. Hertzog happily remains in office during all of World War Two always bothered me somewhat, especially because there is a perfectly good leader portrait of his successor Jan Smuts in game already.

This mod addresses this issue by introducing a small event that causes Hertzog to abdicate in favour of Smuts whenever South Africa finds itself at war with Germany. The event will only fire if South Africa is both a democracy and in a subject relationship with Britain.

Historically Hertzog resigned after losing a vote in South Africa’s parliament pertaining to German hostilities, Hertzog having himself been an advocate of neutrality. Smuts succeeded him and led the country to war. Though abdication just prior to the war would be hard to model in game, this mod seeks to emulate the practical consequences of this course of events.
