Enhanced Historical AI
Supported game version: 1.18.1.0

This is my personal lightweight AI mod that mostly focuses on AI in historical games. It doesn’t necessarily make it more difficult to play against, but rather fixes some of its shortcomings, dumb decision making, and unhistorical behaviour. AI countries will do what they’re supposed to in historical mode, research and build historical plane and tank designs, use more varied unit templates and be able to handle some common war situations better.

Aside from AI this mod also adds many historical equipment templates and corrects many existing templates to be more historically accurate.

This mod is generally compatible with other mods that don’t modify vanilla tech tree.
NOT Ironman Compatible. Should not be combined with other AI mods.

General Changes:

– various improvements for Historical Focus On – AIs will declare wars and join factions at more historically accurate dates, take historical focuses and decisions when they should etc
– improved the ‘Phoney War’ – lasts longer, and AIs won’t bomb each other during this time
– improved the historical wars in Iraq/Iran to be more dynamic and sensible
– better AI PP spending priorities
– improved AI’s use of garrison laws
– AIs will prioritize research and use techs and designs they used historically more
– AI will research and build railway guns and paratroopers (for raid missions)
– many tweaks to AI equipment production, construction, and some AI unit templates
– major AIs will hire XP advisors first and construct research facilites, including nuclear
– fixed many cases of AI causing a WW3 in historical games by randomly taking a wrong wargoal focus
– more minor countries with a generic focus tree will follow a historical plan and not just do random things

Germany

– added many scripts for better AI behavior in both historical and unhistorical games
– better theater management – less tanks in Norway, no trips around Africa, no suicidal attacks into Maginot
– aside form tanks AI will also produce some SPGs, tank destroyers, and some heavy tanks
– will build its surface fleet sooner and then produce more submarines
– if AI defeats USSR it will change strategy accordingly and focus on navy more
– will finish the Autarky Achieved focus if it ever can
– AI will actually protect its capitol
– RK puppets will stop trying to ‘help’ by raising divisions, instead of garrisoning their own states

USSR

– will defend its important cities more
– AI will produce cheap infantry-only divisions if it’s losing a war
– AI will not waste all PP on colorful propaganda posters and resource prospecting
– should produce a lot more tanks, won’t switch factories so much and lose efficiency
– if it loses its airforce it will reinforce a bit first, before engaging with Germany again
– AI taught what Anti-soviet pact means and that WW2 in 1938 versus everyone else is a bad idea
– completely replaced the generic aircraft presets with historical designs in the aircraft designer

USA

– USA focuses more on Air/Naval techs
– will hire a PP advisor early so it’s not constantly out of PP
– will research & build synthetic refineries, if Indochina rubber sources are threatened
– will now use the prospecting decisions and get more resources
– will build a larger Air Force, including a lot of strategic bombers and long range heavy fighters

Japan

– AI will switch aircraft and tank production sooner to not produce outdated designs
– will use tanks more, and train bicycle divisions
– AI will no longer be so susceptible to economical collapse due to lack of convoys from raiding
– AI will station more troops in its homeland so it’s not such an easy target for naval invasion

The United Kingdom

– will use the exiled government decisions much more effectively
– will defend Suez, Gibraltar and Malta better
– will build some Fuel silos to not constantly run out of fuel
– will perform the attack on Mers-el-Kébir
– allied AIs will try to support naval invasions into France with their air forces more
– they will also try to perform offensive missions there and not just sit idly at the UK air bases

France

– AI historical focus changed to be more in line with actual history
– will think twice before declaring any war if it still has ‘disjointed government’ idea
– will not just abandon its colonies (No Garrison) if it capitulates and let the resitance destroy everything

Other changes

– Turkey AI will stop joining the Allies automatically (can now choose either faction depending on who’s winning, or remain neutral)
– fixed Swiss AI being stuck in its focus tree – will complete focuses and trade with other nations
– fixed Switzerland not being neutral without its DLC (and Italy attacking it)
– Poland, Belgium & Czechoslovakia – will prepare for the war better
– fixed UK & France re-guaranteering Czechoslovakia after Munich Conference
– Canada & Australia will build more ships, altered historical focus path
– Nationalist Spain & Vichy France – will send volunteers to Germany against the Soviet Union
– fixed Spain AI’s inability to re-core their states due to low compliance
– fixed Nationalist Spain joining factions (Japan) after Germany is defeated
– Chinese warlords and Japanese puppets will now hire army advisors and update templates properly
– Denmark declaring independence will no longer cause a war between Japan and Soviet Union

– AIs will pick appropriate Grand doctrines and Spirits in historical mode
– major AIs in faction will stop closing economy for no reason
– AIs should care more about low stability and will always try to improve it above 50%
– AI should use War Bonds and war support decisions more
– AI should not ignore army mutinies/other crises if the first attempt to solve it fails
– reduced the amount of mothership aircraft AI tries to produce to more sensible levels
– minor nations won’t be repeatedly seizing civilian trains for no reason
– fixed many AI countries not using correct unit namelists
– fixed some cases of game using wrong icons/3D equipment models as a default
– And many more AI fixes and tweaks (can’t list them all)
