In our timeline, King Edward VIII, widely rumoured to harbour right-wing sympathies, abdicates in 1936 in order to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson. In the VBCW timeline, he doesn’t.
What follows is a constitutional crisis and the collapse of the United Kingdom as we know it, as the British Isles are plunged into a bloody and multifaceted, yet curiously sporting and whimsical, civil war.
If you like idea of armed Morris Dancers and Women’s Institute Armoured Columns, if you’ve longed to hear the stirring sound of Jerusalem blaring from the wings of a squadron of dive bombers, if you’ve always wanted to see a fishing trawler with a 25-pounder field gun lashed to its deck, then look no further. A Very British Civil War has all this and more.
