Paul´s historical rebalancing Mod
Hello. This is just a funny little side project by me that aims to improve the historical accuracy. Right now i dont intend to continue this, but if a lot of people like it or have requests what i should change, maybe there will be small updates every now and then.
Changes:
– division stat icons
– breakthrough became suppression
– suppression is now called occupation
– the rhine and volga are impassible rivers
– maginot and westwall bunker adjustments
Balancing:
– paratroopers land with 50% orga
– the combat width of units is logical now. artillery has 1 witdh and tanks 3
– artillery has more suppresion than soft attack
– light tanks are good against infantry now
– medium tanks have a purpose as strong all- arounders
– heavy tanks are weak against infantry, but perform better at tank vs tank
– units with armor advantage take 75 less strenght and orga damage
– armor vs average is 20%
– penetration vs average has no boni
– forests give better air protection
– the signal company can have up to 100 orga
My ideas and historical thinking:
As i see it, HoI4 does not represent the warfare of WW2 quite right. Especially regarding the tanks, breakthrough and soft attack.
For example artillery. In vanilla it is better at breaking an enemy line than tanks. Especially light tanks are very underpowered and underrated in the game right now. However historically thats not what artillery or tanks did. The artillery only suppresses the defender and thus protects the attacker ( high breakthrough ), while tanks are the actuall breakthrough units and should deal a lot of damage. Especially light tanks were very effective against infantry. Else WW1 would probably have ended differently.
My next issue are rivers, especially the big ones like the volga. There is just no way a division could cross it without a bridge that already existed. This new feature ties in perfectly with the paratrooper unit fix. The new rivers require you to secure a beachhead if you want to cross them. On the other hand they can also be used as a defensive line. This has the potential to create really cool and epic historical battles like "Fall Gelb", "Fall Blau"/"Battle of Stalingrad" or "Market Garden".
There is also the possibility to use tanks alone in a division now. The impoved buffs the armor gives them makes the tanks perform somewhat ok against infantry, however you wouldnt want such a division to get pierced or be attack by close air support, because that will end deadly.
I also improved the soft attack of mechanized units. They should now have a purpose in the game.
