Espionage Updated
All credits go to Nicolas and DARKSNAKE for making the original mod, this is simply an updated version of the original mod.
Nicolas & DARKSNAKE > Paradox :flushed:
Are the La Resistance DLC spy mechanics not exactly your cup of tea? Do you prefer the mechanics for mods or past games? If so, then this is the mod for you, it takes the old "Espionage" mod and brings it up to date by removing the DLC spy mechanics.
The original mod is obviously Espionage however some changes were made from the original mod to make it more compatible with modern HOI4
- Changed supported version.
- Fixed version related errors.
- Removed vanilla spy menu and replaced it with the mod’s menu, also got rid of spy viewmode.
- Minor Localisation improvements.
- Fixed research, resistance and volunteer local missions.
- Fixed encryption focus.
- Moved support resistance button down to not overlap with new gui elements.
- Made infiltrations easier to pull off.
- Made spy universities cheaper to build.
There are still errors and things that would be nice to change or add, these are some of those things, also like a list of errors I suppose.
- Fix dynamic token errors
- Fix errors from game referencing spy GUI I removed.
- Fix "undefined GUI type" error.
- Give agency director different portraits per country.
- Somehow re-implement some exclusively vanilla spy features in this.
- When messing around with then new spy button, I gave it a random position on the topbar, but it needs a proper one
- Compatibility versions for other mods that change the GUI.
- Show espionage xp somewhere more convenient.
- Continuous spy focus
-
Are any of these questions actually frequently asked
None at all, I just wanted somewhere to put all this random information

What’s your problem with Paradox’s spy system?
This is only my personal problems with it, but it feels so disconnected from the rest of the game, with having to go into different view modes and all sorts of stuff to use it, and the way it doesn’t really interact with existing menus makes it feel even more out of place compared with the rest of stuff, not to mention how different the mechanics feel to the base HOI4, it feels like it’s its own little separate minigame stuffed into the game that you have to play occasionally, and there is not really much incentivization to use it, aside from gaining small bonuses, so it feels like you get hurt more for not using it than you gain for using it.
