Falcon’s Generic Focus
I was bored with the generic focus tree and found it to be quite the opposite of fun to me while playing a lot of generic countries. So I made my own, feedback is appreciated (this description will be improved later).
If you’ve got a bug or a feature request, you can comment it below, or you could open an issue on Github :)![github.com]
Should be compatible with all DLCs as far as I know, but doesn’t require any of them. If someone has an issue due to a missing DLC, don’t hesitate to notify me, I’ll do all I can to make it as vanilla-compatible as possible.
For other mods compatibility, this one only overrides the generic focus file and not a single other one. So unless a mod overrides the generic focus file or seriously messes with core concepts of the game, this should work just fine.
- Basic AI behavior to avoid ending up with chaotic games and/or messing up historically-focused games
- Industrial, political and military branches
- Ideology "spectrum" for the political branch
- Focuses to change ideology. You can now finally become unaligned without having to die of old age!
- A focus tree for government in exile (it’s still very small)
- Make the AI more intelligent
- Balance the mod according to feedback
"Yes" and no. No, because no generic focus tree can really be historical. But "yes", in the way that if you enable historical focuses, no generic country in the world will attempt to change ideology and you should end up with a quite historical game indeed. I made my best to make sure that historical games don’t end up with some random big-ass country deciding to go completely 180° and mess everything up, so if that ever happens with my mod, don’t hesitate to tell me, I’ll check what I did wrong!
I play a lot of tiny countries in Hearts of Iron IV, and since a looong time ago. I just love starting as an underdog and rising up to try and have an impact on the world, but the generic focus tree has always been bugging me off. The problem isn’t in “how it’s weak or powerful”, in my opinion : some parts of it are almost insultingly useless while others are stupidly powerful and easy to reach, allowing mostly for cheesy strategies to be used.
I can understand the concerns! Though after playing almost 1000 hours the game and a lot of generic countries, I noticed how underpowered to oblivion they were. Even after extensive testing, it turns out that without cheesing the hell out of the game, a generic country is pretty much designed to be swallowed by a bigger one (even comments in-code suggests this). So while some focuses give some quite strong bonuses, in my opinion, this still won’t make generic countries overpowered : it’ll just enable some fun options to them and at least let players find some enjoyment 🙂
