Germany historical balance event pack
This mod attempts to more faithfully portray the internal politics and economic management of Nazi Germany, both to enhance historical authenticity and to increase the difficulty for the Axis to snowball during mid-to-late game.
This mod is not compatible with any mod that makes changes to:
- Germany’s national focus tree
- German character files
- vanilla combat tactics
- Adds national spirits and an event chain portraying the effects of corruption on the German war economy
- Adds events that gradually reduce Hitler’s effectiveness as a national leader, potentially culminating with Hitler’s death and succession by Karl Dönitz
- Modifies national focuses pertaining to German fortification projects, to reflect the costs these projects imposed on the rest of the German war economy
- Increases the difficulty for the German Reich to improve its economy laws using either political power or the “German War Economy” national focus
- Adds modifiers for countries and states occupied by the German Reich, affecting resource extraction, factory availability, and resistance
- Adds two new combat tactics that can be unlocked for the German Reich, reflecting Hitler’s micromanagement of troops in the field
This mod was inspired in large part by Johannes Aschim’s thesis on the representation of Nazi Germany in HOI4, which you can read here. [brage.inn.no] In particular, Aschim’s commentary on the game’s portrayal of German political leadership and wartime economic mobilization provided valuable insights for the development of this mod.
Tooze (2005) provides an insightful analysis of German wartime industrial data that helped shape the timeline for this mod’s economy-related features.
