My New Pony: Friendship Is a Lie (Demo)

A thousand years ago, Celestia and Luna were still guarding this land, striving to protect the safety of the ponies. A thousand years later, the sisters turned against each other, plunging the world into war.

A thousand years ago, the two sisters protected Equestria. Under their guardianship, the land was peaceful and prosperous. However, the chaotic war with the evil dragon horse devastated the nation. This war was so bloody and prolonged that it completely changed Celestia and Luna. Celestia became increasingly desperate, while Luna grew more fanatical. Equestria gradually fell apart. After decades of war, Celestia finally found the legendary Tree of Harmony, using its elements to defeat the chaos and banish it forever. However, the war with Tirek was difficult and painful, and although they defeated King Sombra, the Crystal Empire vanished forever in the snowstorm. Equestria entered a hard-won peace with great sacrifices, and everything needed to be rebuilt. The war-scorched land desperately needed a peaceful rule. But Luna remained lost in the chaos of the past, insisting that Equestria was in a dangerous world, thus maintaining a large army of Night Guards and ponies.

Ultimately, Luna became a new threat to Equestria. The conflict between the sisters led Luna to see Celestia as an eyesore. An unsuccessful coup eventually broke out. Fortunately, Princess Celestia was favored by the Elements of Harmony and banished her sister, who had been invaded by Nightmare Moon. However, seeming unwilling to witness the tragedy of siblings fighting each other, the Elements of Harmony disappeared from existence. Celestia designated the year of Luna’s banishment as the first year of the Luna calendar. After that, Equestria began to recover as it had a thousand years ago. Everything started to move in a positive direction. Princess Celestia established the Pony Council to assist her in place of her sister. With the council’s suggestion, Equestria engaged in limited trade with other nations, promoting global development.

However, in the thousandth year of the Luna calendar, Celestia’s prized student Twilight Sparkle discovered unusual movements in the sun, moon, and stars. She urgently advised Princess Celestia to be vigilant, as “the Mare in the Moon” might return. Although Celestia didn’t pay much attention, the council urged her to take this matter seriously. Thus, a series of spells were cast to restore normalcy to the sun and moon. It seemed that another thousand years of peace was beginning. Princess Celestia honored Twilight Sparkle for her great contribution and suggested she leave Canterlot to train in Ponyville, to contribute to Equestria’s growth. After nearly two years in Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle made many friends and got into a lot of trouble.

Suddenly, in the year 1002 of the Luna calendar, Nightmare Moon returned. Princess Celestia disappeared overnight, and Canterlot fell into total chaos. Prime Minister Flurry Shorts fled Canterlot with the council to Manhattan. Twilight Sparkle became separated from her friends and only made it to Baltimare with Fluttershy and Rarity. The returned Nightmare Moon immediately declared herself the rightful heir to her sister’s throne, becoming the new princess, and marched her army to Baltimare, intending to eliminate what she perceived as her greatest threat. However, she did not anticipate that after the destruction of Baltimare, Twilight Sparkle would experience a surge of magic, injuring the overconfident Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon fled back to Canterlot in panic. However, Twilight Sparkle nearly lost her magic after the incident and was escorted to Manhattan for treatment.

Meanwhile, during the Baltimare battle, the Western Changelings discovered the chaos in Equestria and took the opportunity to invade in large numbers. Nightmare Moon’s forces retreated continuously until she personally arrived on the battlefield, leading to a stalemate.

In 1003, Flurry Shorts led the council to declare the establishment of a temporary government and appointed Twilight Sparkle as the new legitimate princess of Equestria. After Nightmare Moon learned of this, she urgently signed a rather dishonorable treaty with Queen Chrysalis, known as the Treaty of Totel, and then returned to confront the temporary government. The Treaty of Totel ceded a large portion of Equestria’s western lands to the Changeling Kingdom. Queen Chrysalis was not satisfied with this treaty; she aimed to annex all of Equestria. She only agreed to the treaty because the Changelings were unprepared for a full-scale war when they rushed into battle. While preparing her army, she shamelessly drained the love of the ponies in the occupied territories.
At this time, a Changeling officer in the occupied area, unable to bear the sight of the ponies’ suffering, requested to be reassigned back to the Hive. His name was Sorax. At the end of 1003, Sorax staged a coup in the Hive, intending to dethrone Queen Chrysalis. This coup ultimately failed, resulting in the execution of numerous Harmony supporters and their sympathizers, allowing Chrysalis to retain her throne. However, the coup nearly toppled the Changeling government. Meanwhile, Nightmare Moon’s legitimacy was also declining; she gradually realized she could hardly control Equestria. Losing significant territories and facing opposition from a democratic council was leading her to a dead end. Therefore, after ensuring the temporary government’s defenses were stable, she set her sights on the chaotic Changeling Kingdom.

And our story begins here.
