For decades, relative peace and stability has reigned in the East. Under the guiding hand of the government in Tianjing, intraregional squabbles have been limited to a few conflicts amongst the tributaries (mostly initiated by the black sheep of the Heavenly Realm, the Dungan State). Jiang Yuehan, Taiping Heavenly King, has led his country for six years in 1931; will he be able to maintain his control, or will the rising radical factions in government and church alike take power? Mongolia, distrusted by Tianjing for their late breakaway from the Qing, has political concerns of its own – and the Dungan State caught between greater powers needs to decide its future. Pingnan Guo has held itself together by representing each group within its borders; can such a delicate balance be maintained? Tibet and Kyushu, outliers amongst the tributaries, rely on aid from Tianjing. If it should stop, who knows what might happen?
The Era of Great Peace begins in an alternate 1931 in which the Taiping Rebellion succeeded in China, upending the previous order in China and eventually the balance of power in Asia. This caused a butterfly effect all across the globe causing European colonization to be much weaker than in our world; the Europe we know from our timeline bears very little resemblance to this mod’s version. Nevertheless, the tensions in Europe eventually led to a massive war that devastated the continent. The winners were exhausted; the losers were utterly humiliated and broken. As a result, several radical ideologies cropped up including National Revivalism, the belief that a country needs to self-transform and reinvent itself to embody its best possible future. In addition, numerous revolutionary movements found increasing support including religious and socialist ones. Meanwhile, the Great Peace that the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom has held on for six decades seems to be on thin ice, as the numerous Asian countries began to transform too. What will be the fate of the world afterward?
