Irish Unit Pack
Historically-accurate unit models for Ireland!
I made these brand new 3D models to be used in Hearts of Iron IV.
• National Army uniform for Infantry
• Rolls-Royce Armoured Car for Light Tanks
The Irish National Army sourced its materiel primarily from British Great War surplus. This is apparent in the old-style dress, webbing and of course the distinctive respirator bag that the British abandoned early on in the Second World War.
They used German-style Stahlhelms, and later on the British Brodie helmet. For this reason it was tricky to make the silhouette distinctly Irish. I decided to use the garrison cap, which while of British origin, it had the distinct emerald green colour and Fianna Fáil badge. It was also used in Irish recruitment posters.
The other distinct feature is the liberal usage of emerald green facings. This was rather unusual for a combat unit, and was actually phased out towards the end of the "Emergency".
The Irish National Army didn’t make very much use of tanks, instead relying on similar armoured cars that they had used since the Irish War of Independence. For this reason, I went for the distinctive British-made Rolls-Royce, which was used up until 1944.
