Indonesian Independence
An alternate history mod where Indonesia gained its independence from the Netherlands in the early 1930’s.

This mod adds the fully independent nation of Indonesia to the start of the game, the premise being that during the Great Depression, the indpendence activists in Indonesia took advantage of the situation and proclaimed independence.
The Netherlands, with its economy in a poor state from the depression, was too weakened to withstand a drawn out conflict with the independence fighters. The UK also supported their independence, hoping to weaken the Netherlands’ grip on southeastern asia, and in the end the Netherlands had to give in to the Indonesian demands. A transitional government was then set up in Indonesia to oversee the process of becoming a functional sovereign state.
DISCLAIMER:
I am not Indonesian, I don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia, I don’t know anyone who does, and I’m not an expert on Indonesian history at all. There’s bound to be some ahistorical features in this mod, so if you find some and you know what you’re talking about, feel free to tell me and I’ll try my best to change it.
FEATURES:
– Completely independent nation of Indonesia at 1936
– Unique national focus tree based (to the best of my abilities) on what opportunities an independent Indonesia would have at the time.
– Unique events concerning the cultural diversity in the country and the transition to independent nation
– Military and government leaders that were historically present and active in Indonesia in the 30’s and 40’s. (Some had to be made up. For example, Eka Effendi is a fictional person)
TO BE ADDED:
– Modifications to the Netherlands and Japan, giving them the opportunity to gain conquer/puppet goals or befriend Indonesia.
– Some sort of incorporation of the conflict between islamic democrats, communists and the military that was present historically. This could be an event chain, a part of the focus tree, etc. and could include a possible civil war event. Still figuring out the best way to do it.
– More navy, army and air chiefs / theorists, preferably based on historical Indonesians
(- Possibly a 1939 start? This is a hobby project, so it’s unlikely to happen, but I’ll keep it in mind)
