The dream of a free and united China did not begin in war, nor did it end with defeat. It was born with Sun Yat-Sen – a vision of a nation independent from foreign domination, strong in unity, and restored from humiliation.
After his death, leadership passed to Chiang Kai-Shek, a man many believed would bring that vision to life. Known as the Generalissimo, he carried the hopes of a fractured nation and the promise of ending China’s long suffering. Yet history took a darker turn. His death in 1945, tied to the relentless pressure of Japanese aggression, marked not a victory, but the collapse of that promise.
Now, China lies divided.
The heartland is controlled by collaborators and occupiers, exploited under the shadow of the Rising Sun. But the Republic has not vanished. In the remote northwestern provinces of Qinghai and Gansu, its remnants endure – isolated, weakened, yet unbroken.
Here, in this last refuge, the question remains:
Can the legacy of Sun Yat-Sen and Chiang Kai-Shek still be preserved?
Or will China remain forever fractured, its fate decided by foreign masters?
