Description:
AI Storyteller

You have played this game before. You know exactly what happens. Germany clicks the same four focuses, Italy faceplants into Ethiopia on schedule, and by 1939 we know the same story. Every. Single. Time.

But what if the world had a Dungeon Master?

AI Storyteller borrows a shamelessly great idea from RimWorld — the Storyteller — and drops it into Hearts of Iron IV. Instead of an AI that grinds through its focus tree on rails, an unseen hand now sits behind the curtain and decides the pace of the whole world: who races ahead, who stalls out, and who suddenly loses their mind and lunges at their neighbour three years early.

You pick the Storyteller’s personality before the game starts, right there in the Game Rules screen next to "AI Behaviour." Then you sit back and find out what kind of history you’re getting today.

Meet the Storytellers

  • The Director — Coherent escalation. A slow, deliberate buildup that quickens into a rising war crescendo. For people who want a story, not a slot machine.
  • The Gambler — Pure chaos. Every nation gets rushed, stalled, or ignored on a whim, with the occasional jackpot. Roll the dice. Live with it.
  • Blitz — Everybody sprints. Focus trees melt and the World War shows up fashionably early. Bring a helmet.
  • Steady Hand — The "nothing ever happens" setting. A slow, peaceful world where ambitions ripen at a glacial pace and the war keeps getting politely postponed.
  • The Equalizer — Rubber-band mode. The little guys get a boost, the runaway snowballers get reined in. Surprisingly humane.
  • Powder Keg — Tense, eerie calm… punctuated by flashpoints. At any moment a great power can simply go off — surging through multiple focuses at a time and hurling itself toward war while the rest of the planet nervously checks the exits.

Knobs and dials

  • Historical / Ahistorical — In Historical, the usual suspects (Germany, Italy, Japan, the USSR) are protected from being slowed into irrelevance, and only they can light a Powder Keg flashpoint — so you still get a recognizable WW2. In Ahistorical, any country can receive a flashpoint.
  • Intensity — From "gentle nudge" to "the world is on fire."
  • Reach — Just the majors, every nation with a custom tree, or the entire planet (your CPU has been warned).
  • Pace the Player Too — Feeling brave? Let the Storyteller mess with your focuses as well.
  • The Chronicle — The Storyteller narrates what it’s up to, so you always know whats happening in the game.

⚠ Please read this part (yes, you)

Do NOT run this alongside my other focus boost / focus reduction mods (or anyone else’s). AI Storyteller already contains and manages the focus-pacing system. Stacking it with another focus-cost mod will fight over the same focuses.

Compatible with most things that don’t rewrite the vanilla national focus trees. As always, your mileage and sanity may vary.

Stop playing the same playthrough. Let somebody else write it for once.
