The year is 2020. Civil wars and terrorism burn countries up, while the great powers toy with the globe within their hands, with no regard to international laws. The guardian of international stability, the United Nations, plays nothing more than an advisory role. Treated as ineffective and passive, the organization meets more and more suspicion and criticism from the public who funds it.
Around the world, a deadly pandemic, economic crises and the breakdown of international ties challenge the United Nations’ vision to push for the common good of mankind beyond borders. As the flames of instability light the United States up, boundaries arise within the nation, splitting states, cities and neighborhoods. The United Nations is exiled from New York City into Geneva, and many international observers assumed this was the end of UN’s relevance, if it ever was.
However, this is not the end.
The flag unfurls, and the peacekeepers march forward. The international order of law and diplomacy that lasted for 80 years is over, as civil war between humans burns from Atlantic to Pacific once more. You must find a new common vision for all mankind, fight your way through chaos and violence, and forge a new world order under one blue banner. The United Nations is not just here to keep the peace, the United Nations is here to stay.
The Fire Rises: Flags Unfurled offers the player a different United Nations under the framework of The Fire Rises, where the United Nations’ attitude toward armed conflicts take a decisive turn during its intervention in the United States, offering an entirely new experience. With focus on either the body, the Peacekeepers, or the soul, the Charter, the player can guide the organization into different paths, and determine mankind’s destiny.
