King Michael’s Coup
In memory of King Michael of Romania.
This mod changes the National Focus "King Michael’s Coup" in Romania’s focus tree in the "Death or Dishonor" DLC, to better reflect the historical coup of King Michael.
What’s wrong with the original focus, you might ask? The way it is represented in game, is as a coup by King Michael to specifically overthrow the government of his father, king Carol II, and replace him with himself. If Carol II isn’t in power, the coup will have no real effect, since it’ll only make Michael leader of the non-alligned party, which won’t be in power at that point nor have a chance at becoming the leading party. Furthermore, it won’t have any influence on Romania’s membership of a faction or participation in a war. This defeats the whole purpose of the original coup, which was primarily launched in order to take Romania out of the war on the Axis side. Furthermore, Michael would have never rose up against the rule of his father. Carol might’ve been extremely unpopular with the Romanian population, but Michael was loyal to him.
So, how does this mod change the focus? In the first place, it’s got new requirements, which are firstly that Carol II must’ve been forced to abdicate, and secondly that Romania must be at war and in a faction. When the focus is complete, the coup will launch, rallying the Romanian armed forces behind Michael and taking over most of Romania. War will break out with the original faction Romania was part of, while an opportunity will arise for Michael to join Romania’s former enemies. This way, Romania switches sides in a bigger war, as happened historically!
Possible future plans may be Romania becoming a puppet if some of its territory has been occupied by its former enemy (like it effectively became a puppet of the Soviet Union historically) or ways to actually make the national spirits carry over to Michael’s Romania. EDIT: Unfortunately this won’t be possible, as apparently the game can only handle a certain amount of code for a single focus. I could only just fit in the code for the current version within this limit, but trying to add more code for turning Romania into a Soviet puppet would break the focus tree. So it won’t be possible to add this feature.
This mod is compatible with ANY mod which doesn’t directly change Romania’s focus tree.
