Retratat: A Portrait Mod
This mod is not compatible with Ironman, because portrait files are associated with the country profiles in Hearts of Iron IV/history/countries. If anyone knows a way around this I would greatly appreciate it.
Retratat is a modification that aims to replace as many generic portraits, and where appropriate, actual leaders, in the base game as possible with archival and public domain images. I began this mod some time after I discovered that the Berlin-Moscow Axis national focus was broken.
The art style varies from portrait to portrait, but I strive to make each one as close to the original game’s art style(s) as possible. I am still improving in the way I make these images, and I will freely admit that the process is still being refined and improved on.
I aim to be historically accurate and appropriate as possible where leader replacement and selection of photographs is concerned. They will be noted in the section titled, "Current Lineup" where they apply.
Contributions in the form of suggestions, constructive criticism, information and images (public domain and archival) of WWII-era leaders are most welcome.
I have no specific plans for which portraits I will be doing next, as I am limited by time, image availability, and information. My current area of work at the moment will be to complete portraits for European, South American, and Indian heads of state/government. I will also considering doing some of the more unsatisfactory portraits.

As there is no way currently to make the portrait files added in a standalone manner relative to the country files, this mod will be incompatible with any mod that modifies those files. It is, however, compatible with mods that change other aspects of the country, such as flags, party names, orders of battle, etc.. Thus, anyone who wishes to use the portraits within their own modification is welcome to do so, provided credit is given to the author.
Credit must be given to Paradox, as I remixed several of their files to add so many lapels and ties to these portraits.
