UPDATE #16
—————– —————–

Updated to 1.6.* (MtG)

It’s now completely unneeded, but I updated the mod anyway. I didn’t change the units, so they are slightly cheaper than the units now included in the base game.

UPDATE #15
—————– —————–

Updated to 1.5.* (WtT)

All the things seemed to still be working fine, so I didn’t actually change anything.

I’ll go through the tech file later to see if anything changed there, but I doubt it.

UPDATE #14
—————– —————–

Updated to 1.4.* (OAK/DoD).

The newest patch/dlc didn’t change any of the files that affected the mod, so I just updated the version number.

Please remember that this mod OVERRIDES the artillery technology tree in order to apply the tech bonusses to the motorized/mechanized versions of the artillery units. So whilst it will still work with pretty much any other mod, any mod that changes the artillery tech tree will make it so these units won’t benefit from the artillery improvement techs.

MOD DISCRIPTION:
—————– —————–

Ever notice that artillery brigades have a maximum speed of 4 kmp/h?

That’s because the standard artillery units are horsedrawn. So although support companies will not affect the maximum speed of your division, if you add frontline artillery brigades, that’s because all frontline artillery brigades in HoI4 are horse-drawn.

So they’re slow.

I changed that by giving all four artillery brigades trucks. This means that they have the same maximum speed as motorized infantry (12 kmp/h).

The brigades now need trucks as equipment though. So make sure you’re building enough. The brigades are separate from the vanilla brigades, so you can still use those if your economy can’t cope with truck production.

The brigades need one truck for every gun, and four extra trucks for the command unit, radio equipment, support soldiers and spare equipment. For the mechanized version a halftrack is used instead of a truck. The amounts are the same.

Artillery brigade = 36 guns – 40 trucks.
Anti-tank brigade = 36 guns – 40 trucks.
Anti-air brigade = 30 guns – 34 trucks.
Rocket-artillery brigade = 36 launchers – 40 trucks. (Rocket artillery only gets a truck-towed ‘infantry’ version. There’s already a ‘mobile’ version -the truck mounted rocket artillery- in the base game.)

The mechanized versions use mechanized equipment instead of trucks. The amounts are the same.

Keep in mind that the maximum speed is tied directly to the equipment ratio of trucks. So if you don’t have enough trucks to equip your artillery, they’ll slow down. The same goes for other units using trucks or APC’s (I’ve seen mechanized infantry divisions go 1.3 kmp/h because they didn’t have any APC’s for the mecanized brigades).

This mod only adds new artillery brigades. The original units remain unchanged.

I also added a support company with all three artillery units combined (artillery = 24, anti-tank = 24 & anti-air = 20). This is also usable for paratroopers. I consider this somewhat cheat-y, but I didn’t want to spend 60% of my support slots on artillery units. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.

Feel free to use this for your own mod(s).

KNOWN BUGS:
—————– —————–

– Some icons are missing (mostly the small ones, like in technology tooltips and the division tooltip (when hovering over them in the field). I’m not sure in which file I’m supposed to look, and this has low priority (I prefer playing the game). Eventually this will be fixed. The large icons (in the template editor for instance) do work.

COMPATIBILITY:
—————– —————–

– The only compatibility issues should be with any mod that changes the artillery technology tree (commontechnologiesartillery.txt).
