Semi-Historical AI Focuses
To install the mod, you will need to drag the "common" folder found in the mod’s directory (steamapps>workshop>content>394360>2681229561) into the game’s directory (steamapps>common>Hearts of Iron IV) and overwrite its contents. I recommend you backup your original "00_on_actions.txt" first. For reasons I’m unsure of, the mod does not load correctly from the launcher after I upload it to the Steam Workshop (the version in my Documents folder loads fine). I figure it has something to do with the mod’s descriptor file. If you know how to fix it, I would really appreciate a message letting me know how. Thanks!
This mod reduces the chance that each country played by the AI will choose an alternative path when the "historical AI focuses" option is disabled. This means that instead of nearly every country going completely off the rails as soon as they are permitted to choose ahistorical national focuses, a much smaller portion of countries (roughly a fifth) will do so. This allows for considerably more plausible alternate histories to develop during games and improves AI performance as most of their alternative paths are premised to some extent on their neighbors following their historical scripts (a situation which is considerably more likely to emerge when the number of countries deviating from their historical focuses is significantly lowered). The mod is (naturally) not Ironman compatible, however, it should work with most other mods. Please let me know of any questions, comments, or suggestions.
Most AI countries will now have a 20% chance of being assigned a flag corresponding to a "strategy plan" which will cause them to undergo an ahistorical change of internal politics, the weight of each path being proportional to its unmodified value (with some minor exceptions). For Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, and Turkey, the chance of being flagged for a path leading to an ahistorical, internal political change is instead increased to 30% (both due to many of their paths only mildly deviating from history as well as the fact that there are so many of them to include) and Spain’s chances are unaltered. Additionally, AI countries with an alternate foreign policy path have a 20% chance of being flagged for it in addition to their chance of having an internal political change.
