Description:

Colonies is a mod that breaks up the colonial empire of France & Britain while still engaging with the original vision of HOI4. It achieves this by making the African, middle eastern & Asian colonies of Britain and France into separate nations that are individual vassals of their respective overlords. Additionally all of these colonies have been given a new ‘Idea’ that increases the amount of manpower they provide to divisions recruited by the overlord and prevents the AI from making divisions, meaning the player will have to recruit them all manually.

The idea behind this is to make players utilise the vast manpower pools that these colonies provided and to add further flavour to these more neglected areas, especially Africa

Players should be aware that the method of implementation is quite blunt and they will have a lot of locked templates in their division template lists, they should simply decommission these to clear up the division list as the pre-placed templates are all locked.

Britain & the dominions (Canada, Australia, New Zealand & South Africa) all had their colour changed to the one used by the Raj, this is used by the new colonies as well.

The African colonies have been broken up into: The Colony & Protectorate of Uganda, Kenya, Tanganyika, Nyasaland, North Rhodesia, South Rhodesia, Bechuanaland Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone & Gambia.

The Middle East has been broken into: The kingdom of Egypt, Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, the Mandate of Palestine, the Emirate of Transjordan & the Aden Protectorate.

British Guyana has been broken into its own colony.

New unit templates have been created for the East & West African colonies, Transjordan & for the other colonies. The East & West African templates include a Battalion (2 Infantry Battalions), a Regiment (4 Infantry Battalions, Recon & Engineers) & a Brigade (14 Infantry Battalions, Recon & Engineers). Transjordan has a Template for a Brigade of the Arab Legion, these units can be produced by the UK with manpower from the colonies in order to bulk up its army.

I have also modelled existing garrison units in Africa, the Middle East & Asia, notably the Kings African Rifles, West African Frontier Force & the Garrison in Sudan.

The British Raj has also received some much needed attention and has been beefed up from 11 Divisions to 108. Many of these Divisions are garrison units of 2 Battalions with little to no manpower or equipment however it does have a core of Experienced units that are well equipped.

The French Empire has likewise been broken up into its constituent parts, however France has maintained direct control of Algeria.

In Africa i have split Morocco & Tunisia into their own separate protectorates, in sub-Saharan Africa Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin & Nigér have been formed into the French West African Federation.

Chad, Central Africa, Gabon & Republic of the Congo have been organised into the French Equatorial African Federation.

Madagascar & Indochina have also been broken into The Colony of Madagascar & The French Indochinese Union.

France also received the Mandates of the Syrian Republic, Togo & Cameroon, all of which are separate nations.

In the case of France finding information about their colonial units has been more difficult but i have tried my best with what i can find.

Indochina has a small garrison of infantry in the form of the Tonkin, Tai, Cambodian & Ammarite Rifles I have modelled as best I can the Armee d’Afrique (Army of Africa) which is based across North Africa & France itself.

I have also added the Tirailleurs & Zouaves who can be recruited from Morocco, Tunisia, West Africa & Central Africa and are modelled similar to the British recruitable colonial units in a Regiment & Brigade form.

–Issues–
– This mod probably breaks the focus trees of Britain and France, i don’t know, i haven’t really tested this
– This probably also makes the AI of Britain and France behave a bit weirdly
– likely not compatible with RT56 & other large scale mods like that
– will not work with older save games
– CURRENTLY ONLY WORKS IN 1936

–Updates & To do–
I’ll update this as and when i feel like it

Currently mapping out a generic focus tree for all of the new colonies added & brainstorming ideas for a more expansive focus tree for the Raj
