Będą bić! – Hańba!
Mass strikes of peasants and workers, violently suppressed by police and military, ghetto benches and pogroms of Jewish communities, secret schemes behind the scenes of politics and the menace of war over Europe… welcome to 1937.
"They will beat!" is the title of Hańba’s second album. As in the case of the debut, the album’s publisher is Antena Krzyku and, as before, acoustic punk with references to urban folk of the interwar period is the band’s clearest showcase. After the success of the group’s first album, we should expect a continuation of what we heard on it. "They will beat!" will again take the listeners to Sanacja Poland, although, as the publisher assures, this time Hańba proposes a stop in 1937.
In 1931, a backyard orchestra was established in Krakow’s Podgórze. However, it was not another ordinary band, but a rebellious orchestra, singing and music stigmatizing injustice, violence and all the infamy of the surrounding reality of interwar Poland, which was much more complicated than we might think today…
Rebellious Backyard Orchestra "Hańba!" is a musical and literary fiction proving that punk rock was not created in the British Isles in the noisy 1970s, but was created in the turbulent times of the Second Polish Republic, which was not only the heyday of culture, art and technology, but also a period of destruction of democracy, authoritarian rule of Sanacja and its imperialist tendencies. Four musicians from Krakow, with the help of backyard instruments (banjo, drum, accordion, tuba) and the support of interwar poets (Tuwim, Brzechwa, Broniewski) impersonate created characters and combine musical inspirations (punk, folk, klezmer) to create their own story about this the most "literary" period in Polish history.
