TFR-Entropy
Submod for The Fire Rises, place TFR-Entropy below it in the mod order
Entropy is an overhaul to development mechanics and the effects of governance and economics on your society’s bonuses.
The intent is to make the game much more punishing and the world as a whole bleaker. You won’t see everyone on the planet eradicate poverty, have glorious transcendant technology and industry, no hunger, an invincible army, and a society free of crime or misery by 2035. Some people will still be a little sad.
Also it makes it so you can’t defund all welfare after skiing to eradicated poverty. You must keep funding pensioners forever. HAHAHAHAHAHA
1. All development has some pushback against high levels of development. Every level of development above 0 additionally grants -1% monthly development*. So if you have 4% monthly development, you can reliably expect the equilibrium to eventually bring you to the 2nd highest level of development and stay there. If you are at the 2nd highest level of development and have 3% monthly development from all other sources, then you will have -1% monthly development etc.
*Exception being agriculture which has a slightly easier curve
*The max level has 6% instead of 5% which is what it normally would be and is nominally extra difficult to maintain that edge
2. Development’s effects have been largely increased across the board. Mostly doubled. In base TFR, the lowest level of academic development grants -20% research speed. In Entropy, the lowest level of academic development grants -40% research speed, etc. Likewise, base TFR’s minimum agriculture level has -80% monthly population. (Which results in population GROWTH of 20% from the game’s base pop growth level). In Entropy, minimum agriculture level has -160% monthly population. (Which results in population DECLINE*)
*Unless you have other sources of population growth such as healthcare nat spirits
3. All government and economic types have some small level of development that is dispersed across different levels to provide a baseline based on that ideology’s priorities. So even with zero funding and the worst laws known to man, there is still some baseline above zero in most or all categories.
All governments give ~+3% development* spread across different levels. 2% from their archetype, 1% from their subtype.
*+3% up from base TFR. Base TFR governments that already granted 1% in an area will usually have that added on to Entropy’s bonus for 4% total.
Democracy -> 1% Academic, 1% Society
Authoritarianism -> 1% Military, 1% Society
Socialist -> 1% Poverty, 1% Farming
Fascist -> 2% Military
Other -> (Varies)
All economic systems give ~+2% development spread across different levels. 1% from their archetype, 1% from their subtype.
Capitalism -> 1% Industry
Socialism -> 1% Poverty
Corporatism -> 0.5% Society, 0.5% Industry
Militaristic Economy -> +2% Military
Chaotic Economy -> -2% Everything
Mobilization -> Scaled industrial development to consumer goods production. Mass consumerism has 2% industrial development while permanent mobilization has 0.5%.
Welfare -> Greatly increased effects across the board. Nearly doubled poverty effects (welfare state has 3% monthly poverty development)
Education -> Greatly increased effects to academic development.
Taxes -> Different poverty malus scaling. Max taxes have a base 0 effect while trinket taxes have 2% monthly poverty development.
Females -> Slightly increased effects to society across the board.
