Generals and Traits 1.92
Generals and Traits is a mod designed to add greater nuance, effectiveness, and historical accuracy to the traits of your generals and field marshals. The starting levels of the generals have been altered to reflect both their abilities and ranks, traits have been altered to be more effective and easier to learn, and a number of new historical generals have been added using generic and modded portraits by Karlefeldt.
The goal of the mod is twofold. First is to alter the starting ranks and levels of the generals to be closer to their historical counterparts, and also allow them to more easily obtain appropriate traits through combat. The levels were determined not based on skill, but on a combination of potential ability and rank at the start of the game. Thus hoary Old Guard field marshals will start at level 3 or 4, while future star generals like Guderian, Monty, or Patton will start at levels 2 or 3. Generals with good potential will have more personality traits (needed to unlock some of the best FM and General traits), and will more rapidly accumulate earned traits due to their lower levels.
The second part of the mod is the traits themselves. Infantry, mobile, and armored leader traits require only a 10% participation, allowing a broader scope of these abilities. All traits in general have lower thresholds, which combined with the average lower starting levels means that the generals can earn a greater base of abilities through combat. This is meant to offset the problem of level 5 generals who can’t earn Panzer Leader or Mountaineer even after five years of hard fighting.
The traits themselves are more helpful and the choice between competing traits should be tougher and more situational. Many of the best Field Marshal traits now require earned general traits, thus making it more attractive for you to keep your Old Guard Field Marshals in place during the early game while your future stars grind out much needed experience in front line combat.
There are some new generals for a number of nations. These use either generic portraits or some of the great artwork created by Karlefeldt in his Additional Portraits mod found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1763488674.
