– This mod is an attempt to recreate an historical event. As such it depicts historical people, actions and events which were pretty heinous. As the mod creator I DO NOT endorse any of the ideologies, actions or beliefs that it depicts. The main goal of the mod is to present an authentic scenario of the Battle of Stalingrad for the purpose of historical study and understanding.

– The mod has been made by me alone. Because I am just one person, there may be some silly errors/problems with the mod. I have taken a lot of time to try to quash these issues but I suck at the game and even more so at micro so when I was testing I imagine there is a lot of stuff that I missed.

Overview + Features

Welcome to my biggest mod to date, the Battle of Stalingrad. This mod is unique in that it puts you in charge either 6th Army or the Stalingrad Front in the Stalingrad area. The mod focuses solely on this region, with a map covering roughly the equivalent of the Stalingrad state in vanilla HOI4. Because the map is zoomed so much, a number of changes have been made to the game. These include:

– Divisions have now been split into regiments and battalions.

-Rivers are technically classed as ‘ocean’ (as per Vanilla standards). Straits are used as crossing-points. Guard them well!

– Movement speed is increased to match the zoomed map. Watch for encirclements!

– Aircraft range is increased. Your planes will now cover the entire map with range. In addition, their speed is increased so you can transfer them faster.

– Supply lines have had their range increased.

– Focuses are shortened, and the game is designed to last until (roughly) from July 1942 to spring 1943.

-Game speed is greatly reduced, allowing you to manage the battle hour by hour (and practically minute by minute)

Other features of this mod include:

-Historical railways as per maps of the Stalingrad area

-Historical OOBs and leaders for July 23, September 8, and November 24 1942

-Over a hundred events documenting the story of the Battle of Stalingrad

-Vanilla decisions and advisors reworked to function in a shorter and smaller map

-Focus trees with both historical and alt-historical elements

-A map designed with real-world sattelite imagery, as well as historical maps of the Stalingrad area.

-An extensive repetoire of Soviet, German and Romanian commanders who played a part in the battle.

Context

It is the summer of 1942. The German Army Group South surges into the Caucasus region. This is Case Blue, the relaunching of Operation Barbarossa – and the offensive designed to finish off the Soviet Union for good.

Many of the Germans expect an easy victory. Indeed, for the last year, the German Army has smashed the Red Army’s defenses, plunging a dagger deep into the heart of Soviet power. But what the Germans do not know is that they have only awakened a beast. A beast that now stirs. The Red Army is far from defeated – and now, the Germans must face the might of a resurgent and enraged Soviet people, infuriated by the travesties the Germans have committed upon them. A fight to the death is about to ensue!

This mod is effectively a scenario, covering the Battle of Stalingrad (from the prelude in July 1942, to the conclusion of the battle in Spring 1943). It has a fully detailed map with historical railways and locations.In addition, both start dates (August 23 1942 and September 8th 1942) have accurate historical OOBs, with unit templates based on real-life templates that were actually used.

Criticism/suggestions

I don’t just accept constructive criticism, I encourage it! As previously mentioned, I have developed this mod on my own. While i have done quite a bit of testing to purge any issues, I am certain there will be ones I have not yet found. This is mainly because I actually suck at playing HOI4. So please let me know what suggestions you have/problems you have found with the balance/etc.

This is something new for me, and, it seems, for HOI4 as a whole. So let me know how it goes. I am currently working on further scenarios as well – join my discord if you want more information on these!

Compatibility

– The units spawned by events often have no supply, making their destruction a trivial affair.
-Due to the zoomed map, the day-night cycle is not compatible, I recommend disabling it.

-This is a total overhaul mod, and as such incompatible with basically every other mod. The only areas I have not really touched are sound and certain aspects of GUI. Combine mods at your own risk!

Known Issues + What I’m Working On

-While I will be keeping Stalingrad alive in the face of coming updates, the bulk of my modding time is now spent on Scenario: Overlord. Join my discord for more details of this. I will be taking the lessons learned from Stalingrad and applying them to an even bigger and better Scenario mod!
