Description:

Tired of seeing the same five guys commanding half the world’s armies? Want a bit more variety in your post-war political leadership? Then this mod is for you.

I’ve added 750+ generic general and admiral portraits and 300+ political leader portraits for Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America, each of which was AI-generated using a vanilla generic portrait as a basis. Includes male and female variations. Ironman-compatible.

These are not perfect by any means, especially in the small details and the fact that some of them are a bit on the cartoony side, but I was just tired of having having to rely on clones in order to staff my armies and these portraits are close enough for my tastes.

Feel free to take, use, redistribute, and modify any of the portraits contained in this mod.

Shoutout to NovelAI for their implementation of Stable Diffusion, which was used to generate these portraits.

Change log:
– Version 1 (October 12, 2022): Added military portraits.
– Version 2 (October 13, 2022): Added political leader portraits.
– Version 3 (October 14, 2022): Removed Paradox’s manually-set generic portrait entries in the interface files, allowing them to randomly select generic portraits.
– Version 4 (October 15, 2022): Added portraits for the middle east continent. Switched the caucasus countries to use European generics.
– Version 5 (October 16, 2022): Made downscaled versions of each portrait to replace the generic portrait that was being used as a placeholder. These appear on the division info screen as well as when a character is promoted to an advisor.
– Version 6 (October 19, 2022): Added portraits for Tsarist/Fascist Russia (applies to all of its sub-routes like Third Rome and Pan-Slavic Union). I think the Soviet admirals fit well enough for both sides, so I’ve only added Tsarist/Fascist Russian generals for now. When I get around to the Communist variants I’ll just add those to the core SOV tag definitions.
– Version 7 (October 20, 2022): Added general and admiral portraits for SOV communist paths.

Forthcoming features:
– Military portrait expansion for major nations (SOV [added in V6 and V7], USA, GER, FRA, ITA, Japan, ENG).
Military and political portraits for Middle East continent. (Added in V4)

Known issues:
Small portrait variants are currently set to a vanilla one. Would need to be redressed for all portraits, but since it isn’t something very noticeable it’s low priority. (Fixed in V5)
A lot of releasables use vanilla generic portraits because Paradox decided to manually set certain leaders to use generic portraits instead of allowing them to be randomly selected. They are given their own entries in the gfx files so it might be possible to overwrite the vanilla interface file and remove those entries and force it to randomly select portraits instead. Will check if that works. (Fixed in V3)
– It should be generally compatible with mods, although there will be graphical issues with load order with other mods that modify _leader_portraits.gfx. You would need to change the load priorities to choose which mod you want to have on top of the other.
