Rise of Romania
This is currently my first ever designed modification and servers as a testing mod for romania between myself and one other. While this mod is a work in progress, it is now in the alpha stages and able to be tested for balance and gameplay.
It is very playable, but do not use this mod for start year 1939!!!! This was designed entirely for 1936 thus far.
The outline for this mod was Inspired by Henry Turtledove and the following premise jumped into my mind while I was reading one of his works.
The scenario is set in 1936 with an embittered Romania reflecting on the outcome of WWI and reeling from a natural disaster that reshaped Besserabia shortly after the cessation of hostilities. Their population suffers from a whimsical reflection on a time when once they were locked in combat with their hungarian rivals and russian, prussian, and ottomans feared their name. Several of Germany’s more prominant assassination attempts on Adolf Hitler were implimented eariler than their historical execution and a number of officers were forced to flee Germany and took refuge in Romania bringing a potential boost to the talent pool from which the leadership and technological development of their armed forces could benefit from.
Instead of rebuffing Polands initial probes regarding the alliance between the seas Romania quietly accepted and instituted a relationship with the larger nation, taking advantage of the technological sharing and cooporation between the two nations and using them to take advantage of Polands ties to France and cultivate a relationship with them.
- Unique Romanian Focus Tree and Starting Ideas: Political Tree is still a little bare. Take current ideas as a grain of salt as it was a simple copy and apply proof of concept. Ideas will be replaced with more unique effects in the future. Annex Austria POC has been replaced by Annex Bulgaria. Flavor text for Yugoslavic and Bulgarian added.
- King Michael I is now the Communist Leader, Horia Simu is now the Facist Leader, and Ion who was previously the Facist leader is now a Corps Commander. Edwin Rommel is also a Corps Commander to reflect the mods beginning premise. Romania now has a more acceptable talent pool of eight Romanians and six Germans to draw Field Marshals and Corps Commanders from.
- Starting unit numberd have been adjusted and are based of Romania’s Order of Battle as of 2012
- Country Map Colors between Czech and Romania have been reversed.
- Facist and Communist Flags have been redesigned. Facist Flag reflects National Colors with the Symbol of the Iron Guard. Communist Flag is inspired by Wallachian Colors instead of the National Colors.
- Tank Models have had their size modified to be more appropriate and are no longer unrealistically smaller than infantry. This mod is INCOMPATIBLE with Aleksi_i’s Tank Size Mod. You do not need it, I implemented this feature for you.
- For those that make use of sprites: The Light Tank is now based off the French model to reflect that most light armor was imported historically or designed off of french designs. All other armor is German to reflect the cooporation that Romania had historically but in the case of the scenario is still applicable because of Germanic Defections. Romania already has unique infantry, cavalry, and mortorized infantry sprites. Planes are currently using Russian models, but I need to work on figuring out their reskin.
- Modified the map visuals and terrain classifications for Besserabia as an exercise in concept and to reflect the alternate history premise where natural disaster reshaped the province.
As such this won’t be compatible with any other mods that use significant map modification like Persia Rising. Like Master Splinter did I’ve taken the time and effort to place every state/provincial development in Bessarabia (Radar, dockyards, forts, airfields, factories, etc so that they would look more pleasing upon constuction and not like a mismashed generation with no organization. In order to make it compatible I would have to sacrifice my plans at the current time to do the same for the whole of Romania something.
I have no plans on making this compatible in the near future. If there is enough desire and this mod is popular enough I might consider reaching out to him and trying to make it compatible but as of right now this is too much effort and detracts from my current efforts on development. If you want to play as Persia then I recommend toggling my Mod off and when you want to play instead as Romania vice-versa.
- This is INCOMPATIBLE with No Mans Land and I will look into replicating the effect his mod produces like I did with the Tank Size Mod and incorporate it with my own, because really who wants to fight over the entirety of the Sahara Desert.
- Unit Templates and Names are now uniquely named and designed for flavor against the names of real historical units through history and Romanias Order of Battle
- More political and special events to allow for flavor and interesting choices as you play around in the Medditeranean and the Black Sea.
- Clean-up and add realistic starting and unique national ideas, political advisors, unique political company and military individual bonuses.
- Addition of naval commanders their unique portraits.
- Gameplay balance changes
- Research Monarchy Ideologies

I like any other modder especially as a beginner appreciate constructive feedback to consider even if there will be things I choose not to address. I’ve already had some great feedback as I’ve worked through the beginning stages of the alpha testing.
