Jazzy Generic Focus
This is a generic focus tree replacement mod that is heavily inspired by the Generic Focus Tree Made From Ikea mod. The mod has been getting a bit old now, and I’ve made fixes for it before, but due to the way the mod is structured, I decided making a focus tree mod of my own might be better in the long run.
The Jazzy Focus Tree contains similar paths as the regular one, but with a bit more thrown in. I’ve put a lot of effort into prioritising mutually exclusive focuses, to improve replayability and make playing against a nation with this focus tree more interesting.
On top of that, the focus tree includes:
– a branch towards becoming a major (you need to complete the political branch first)
– a branch for going to war against enemy majors when you have become a major
– a desperation branch for when you’re losing the war
– a branch for mid to late-game majors who want some cool unique goodies
– a research/electronics branch
– a La Resistance branch (you need the DLC to see it)
– probably overpowered national spirits and rewards
– an event on game start with the options to enable the focus tree for everyone, replace the generic focus, or only enable it for the player. I’ve also added an option for replacing the generic focus plus the player’s focus, in case they had a nation with a non-generic focus tree.
– a secret branch if your nation starts the game owning Utah
– a secret branch if your nation starts the game owning Bermuda
– an optional secret-branch-style branch that isn’t secret and gives the player some sick, supernatural/ethics-board-violating modules
Generally, this focus tree isn’t made to be a perfect replacement in vanilla games (though nothing is stopping you from doing that, of course!). It is primarily made for game overhauls like Random Country Placement , where every nation uses the generic focus tree. This means that my focus tree contains ways to gain claims and war goals after moving through a decent amount of focuses.
The mod works without the specified DLCs
BUT
Some of the focuses won’t give their full effect.
– Without BBA, the plane designer buffs won’t work (though everything else should).
– Without Man the Guns, the ship designer buffs won’t work, and focuses that spawn/build ships won’t work.
– Without NSB, the tank designer buffs won’t work.
Generally though, these issues are rather minor (except for the ship spawning part), and the mod should still be playable.
"Some of the navy/tank branches’ focus tooltips don’t display any rewards"
The rewards are affected by your previous choices in the focus tree (the ones where you choose between speed, armor, firepower, and affordability). Due to the way the code works, it can’t display before you’ve done at least some of the focuses.
"I completed the ‘become major’ part of the focus tree, but I’m not considered a major by the game"
The game checks for new majors every month. I haven’t found a way to change this, sadly.
"How can I make the ai NOT change governments all of the time?"
if you enable historical focus, the ai will (mostly) never change government through the focus tree.
"My country has unremovable national spirits!"
That one is on me. Each instance of this has to be manually removed in the code, and I don’t have all the DLCs, which means I can’t account for national spirits introduced by said DLCs. Please check out the "getting rid of vanilla national spirits" discussion for more assistance.
More Advisors for Random Country Placement (still works in vanilla)
This mod makes changes to he "_manpower.txt" and "diplomacy_scripted_trigger" files, and makes use of (and references to) vanilla ideas/national spirits in a couple places. This means my mod is more or less compatible with everything except complete overhauls and mods that directly change manpower laws.
This mod uses the Netherlands and Mexico decision and decision cagetory files, as well as the mexican ideas file.
I want to make a branch for puppets and a path for nations with puppets. It will primarily offer things like becoming independent/staying with your puppet master, and ways for the puppet master to develop/support/control its puppets.
I’m considering making a branch for those with the uhhh resistance DLC thingy. I don’t have it myself, so I’m a bit on the fence about it. The user Sunsteel has generously contributed an intelligence agency branch, which has been integrated into the mod!
I want to add compatibility for players who don’t own the BBA, NSB, and MtG DLCs.
I want to finish adding focus descriptions.
Some countries are borderline unplayable if you give them the jazzy focus tree in vanilla hoi4. I have gotten to all of the countries that I personally have DLC for, but I want to get around to fixing everything eventually (provided I can get my hands on all the DLC, of course.)
I also want to add more secret options.
