Better Mechanics : Frontline AI | Updated

Vanilla AI doesn’t lose wars because of stats.
It loses them because it can’t think in fronts.
Better Mechanics: Frontline AI is a systemic overhaul of Hearts of Iron IV’s AI behavior, priorities, and execution logic.
No cheats. No fake difficulty. Just an AI that finally understands where the war is actually happening.
This mod relies on extensive define tuning and multiple AI universal scripts to improve how the AI:
– concentrates forces
– executes battleplans
– reacts to player pressure
– defends its homeland
– and avoids supply-induced suicide
The result is an AI that is harder to break, harder to bait, and much harder to roll with meme tactics.

Strategic AI Behavior Overhaul
- AI strongly prioritizes primary fronts instead of spreading evenly everywhere.
- Much higher reluctance to join wars the AI is militarily or economically unready for.
- Dangerous and low-success battle plans are deprioritized or outright avoided.
- AI aggressively aborts attacks when divisions are weak, disorganized, or undersupplied.
- Failing offensives are cancelled quickly instead of grinding forever.
Frontline Execution & Force Concentration
- Force concentration has been heavily supercharged.
- Tanks and high-breakthrough divisions are grouped, shifted, and reused along the front instead of being smeared everywhere.
- AI can relocate armored forces to exploit breakthroughs, respond to threats, or reinforce decisive sectors.
- Units are far more willing to disengage and escape low-supply zones instead of dying there.
- AI follows the battleplan arrow rather than attacking sideways into nonsense.
Limited AI Micromanagement
- The AI can perform shaky but real micro-level adjustments.
- Divisions may reposition mid-plan to respond to collapsing sectors or exposed tiles.
- This is not human micro, but it is a noticeable step beyond vanilla’s fire-and-forget behavior.
Reactivity to Player Actions
- AI reacts more aggressively to player breakthroughs, naval invasions, and sudden front changes.
- Sudden pushes are more likely to trigger redeployments instead of panic.
- The AI is less likely to abandon a main front to chase minor threats created by the player.
Homeland Defense & Area Control
- Much higher priority for area defense missions.
- Ports, VPs, and critical states are defended with held-back reserves.
- AI maintains frontlines while still responding to naval invasions.
- AI no longer commits absurd numbers of divisions to useless invasions.
Production, Training & War Resilience
- AI deploys untrained divisions more intelligently during wartime emergencies.
- Production logic is adjusted to reduce long-term equipment death spirals.
- Training and production fixes improve AI staying power in prolonged wars.
- AI is significantly better at lend-leasing allies that actually matter.
Terrain, Supply & Assignment Logic
- Divisions are assigned with greater respect for terrain suitability.
- Low-supply fronts (Africa, deep Asia, marginal theaters) have sharply reduced priority.
- AI is less likely to overload supply networks or stack divisions where they physically cannot fight.
Naval & Strategic Allocation Improvements
- AI fields larger, more coherent navies when industrially possible.
- Naval invasions are better supported and less likely to trigger full frontline collapse.
- Strategic forces are no longer constantly yanked off the main front for side shows.

- No hidden stat buffs or combat cheats.
- No hard-scripted outcomes.
- No attempt to fix engine-level AI limitations that Paradox hardcoded in 2016.
- Log errors (harmless).
- AI supply construction remains limited.
- Garrisons can still be light in edge cases.
- AI very rarely ignores its internal needs logic.
