Description:
Ladies and Gentlemen of HOI4, I hereby present to you:
Zimo’s Historically Accurate States.

For anyone that has been bothered by these huge vanilla HOI4’s inaccuracies in occupation borders, this is the remedy.

TLDR; My mod fixes the mostly wrong vanilla WW2 occupation borders with accurate ones, while keeping as much of the "vanilla feel" as possible

This mod only includes the changes that, at least IMO, should be in the base game. I think that for a map-based historical game the borders should be appropriate and properly reflect the actual real-life occupation constraints.

If you didn’t finish your gameplay before my patch and now you can’t continue, here is the 1.4.0 version: Zimo’s Historically Accurate Version (LEGACY)

You can still achieve most modern-day borders, I tried not to exclude that feature while making the mod.
It is also the reason for some of the strange-shaped states.

Also, please keep in mind that everything in this mod was done by myself, by hand. I drew the states using historical sources and maps. No AI.

Vanilla populations were not changed. Each new state has its own historically accurate population that was subtracted from the overall sum, so that the game balance is not affected in any way. At least when it comes to manpower.

DESIRED MOSTLY FOR HISTORICAL GAMEPLAY

At least for now, I only tackled the events and decisions in the historical mode.
Although it seems that I did not miss anything, it is advised to play the mod with some kind of a State Management Tool enabled.

I will be adding new features: fixing focuses, decisions, etc.

For now, the mod is compatible with HOI4 1.18.*

Hope you enjoy! See you on the battlefield

DISCLAIMER

This mod adjusts in-game states and borders, allowing for a faithful recreation of historical territorial plans and occupation constraints. The project is strictly historical and geographical in nature, designed solely to improve border aesthetics.

Changes:

  • Five custom Polish states (including Generalgouvernement borders, MR pact, German occupation)
  • Two custom German states (Pre-1936 Plebiscite areas and claims)
  • Four custom Soviet states (including historical RK borders)
  • Four custom states in other parts of Europe (Eupen-Malmedy, Medimurje, Trencin, Split)
  • Eleven custom states in Asia (including historically accurate Chinese borders overhaul)
  • Custom Gobi desert impassable terrain
  • Adjusted province and state shapes
  • Adjusted historical events and national focuses to work with the new states
  • Added cores and claims to some of the states to more closely resemble ethnic distribution and interwar-era conflicts

All custom states have dynamically changing names, depending on who controls them.
Currently, the mod features English, Polish, and German languages. If you would like to contribute with your translation, feel free to contact me 🙂
