Korea: Road to Independence

Not the story of an already independent Korea, but the struggle to make independence possible.

In most Hearts of Iron IV Korea mods, independence is the starting point. In Korea: Road to Independence, it is the goal.

Begin in 1936, when Korea remains under Japanese rule and the independence movement is fractured by ideology, strategy, and leadership. The Provisional Government claims legitimacy, but not unity. Militants call for direct action. Diplomats seek recognition abroad. Religious, nationalist, and socialist networks compete to shape the future of a nation that does not yet exist on the map.

With scarce funds, uncertain allies, and a divided movement, every decision matters.

Korea: Road to Independence is a Hearts of Iron IV mod focused on the road to liberation itself. Build support from the ground up, manage rival factions within the independence movement, gather precious resources through the Independence Fund, navigate exile politics, and choose whether Korea’s future will be forged through diplomacy, organization, sabotage, or armed struggle.

From Kim Gu and Syngman Rhee to Kim Won-bong, Lyuh Woon-hyung, Cho Man-sik, and Kim Il-sung, competing visions of independence stand side by side. The question is not simply whether Korea will be free, but what kind of Korea will emerge when freedom finally arrives.

1936년, 한국은 아직 일본의 지배 아래에 있으며 독립운동 세력은 이념, 전략, 지도 노선에 따라 분열되어 있습니다.

민족유일당운동은 뚜렷한 성과를 남기지 못한 채 막을 내렸고, 가장 최근의 시도였던 민족혁명당 역시 계파 갈등과 사회주의 세력과의 충돌 속에서 사실상 와해되었습니다.

이제 임시정부에 남은 길은 많지 않습니다. 김구를 중심으로 삼균주의의 의의와 유일정부의 정통성을 지켜내거나, 혹은 임정의 틀 안에서 새로운 길을 모색하는 것뿐입니다.

본 모드는 해방 그 자체와 그 이후의 전개보다는, 해방에 이르기까지의 과정 자체에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다.
